Frequently asked questions
What is a dominant color in an image?
The dominant color is the color that appears most frequently or covers the largest visual area in an image. This tool uses a median-cut quantization algorithm to group similar pixels and surface the most representative colors.
How many colors does this tool extract?
By default it extracts 10 dominant colors, sorted by how much of the image they cover. You can adjust the count from 2 to 20 using the slider before uploading your image.
Does my image get uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your image is never sent anywhere — it stays on your device.
What color formats are provided?
Each color swatch shows the hex code, RGB values, and HSL values. Click any value to copy it to your clipboard instantly.
