Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between cropping and expanding canvas size?
Cropping removes part of the photo to fit a frame. Expanding the canvas keeps the entire original photo intact and adds extra space, usually as padding, around it instead.
Why would I add padding around a photo?
Padding is useful when a platform requires a specific aspect ratio but you don't want to cut off any part of the original image, such as fitting a portrait photo into a square slot.
Can I make the added background transparent?
Yes. Choose the transparent background option and download as PNG to keep the new canvas area see-through instead of a solid color.
Can I set an exact pixel size for the new canvas?
Yes. Pick a target aspect ratio and output width, or switch to exact mode and type the precise canvas width and height you need in pixels.
